September is National Preparedness Month!

Now that the kids are back to school, you can focus on some other things – like being prepared in an emergency.
And as someone who has 3 kids, there is no such thing as being TOO prepared!
#ifykyk
Over the last 10 years, we’ve developed a bit of a mantra: “be prepared, not scared.
Life has changed for our country and many of us. Natural disasters are getting more frequent. (I have lived through hurricanes on the east coast, earthquakes on the west coast, and wildfires on BOTH coasts!). Plus there was the pandemic, foodborne illness outbreaks and rising diesel costs threatening the food supply. All this means that a little forethought and planning isn’t a bad thing.
“Being prepared” comes in a few different forms but unsurprisingly, what I like to focus on are food/nutrition and health! Start with the season you are in, there is no need to jump in and do everything at once. And I LOVE taking advantage of and stocking up when sales arise!
Grow what you Can
I wish we lived on a homestead, regardless you can still grow quite a bit of food if you have a patio, yard, deck or countertop. We have 2 Lettuce Grow farm stands indoors, and some raised beds for herbs and a larger raised bed for veggies outdoors. It’s a work in progress, but I love that even when store bought salad is “dangerous,” I have fresh greens at home!
Stock your Pantry
Aside from the ability to grow food, stocking your pantry can ease worries about the future. Whatever happens, you can still feed yourself/your family. Protein powders and superfood powders are an easy thing to keep on hand, shelf stable and don’t require electricity. I always buy on SALE to get more bang for my buck!
- We drink Organifi juices (discount code: ABBY) every day so we just get extra and rotate our stock.
- Same goes for Pique tea
- Skout Organic snack bars (discount code: PHON)
- Kion coffee (discount code: ABBYPHON).
Real food with real ingredients with a long shelf life. We cycle through so nothing is ever wasted.
Boost your Natural Immunity
Finally, if I haven’t been shouting it loudly enough for the past 10+ years, having a strong immune system and healthy body is one of the best ways to stay prepared for anything. Getting enough sunlight, exercise, clean air to breathe, clean water to drink and having healthy organic fruits and veggies are all easy but important ways to keep your body in tip top shape. I also feel better having some home remedies on hand just in case we do have an illness or minor injury. Things like:
- I have a TON of essential oils, which good for more things than I can list, lol.
- a homeopathic kit for pharmaceutical-free treatment of many conditions
- Silverceuticals remedies (discount code: ABBYPHON) for when colds or illnesses start

Biohacking Toolkit
Beyond the basics, I have my biohacking tools like my infrared sauna (to BOOST your immune system) and red light therapy devices for aches, bruises, colds, illness and general longevity.
- LumeBox (discount code: ABBYPHON)
- Therasage tri-light panels, PEMF mat and infrared home sauna (discount code: ABBYPHON)
I’m just sharing what I do (and we have done for years) as a family. I’ve found that a little advanced prep helps keep me that much more calm when facing the unexpected.
If you find it helpful, feel free to forward this on to someone else you think might benefit from it as well.
