For my daughter’s birthday this year, there was only ONE theme she wanted for her party! Well… two. She did ask for another Mermaid Bash. (Check out this post if you want to see why!)
But besides mermaids, she loves Vampirina! So much so that we went to Disneyland during Halloween time just because Vampirina was making her debut as a costumed character!
It really was a no-brainer. So read on to see how I made this party fun & festive, in a way that’s 100% plant based and gluten free!
Dessert
My friend Yvonne (of Yvonne’s Vegan Kitchen) made the desserts. They were the perfect ending to this fang-tastic party! Not only did she do exactly what was in my head (amazing!) but everything was super yummy!
It seems funny to me, since I know plant based food is just as delicious, if not more so, than its traditional counterparts, but I find my guests are always pleasantly surprised that “plant based” doesn’t mean “tastes like cardboard”. Yvonne is an excellent example of food that happens to be vegan, but is first and foremost delicious! In fact one of my non-vegan friends has already hired her for an event!

Food
I LOVE to entertain AND cook! If I had more time & energy, I would have made the food (like I have done before!), but I’m drained so I called in some catering spots and it worked out great! No need to stress yourself out for a birthday party! It’s more important to have fun and be relaxed. And side note: everyone loved the food, too! 🙂
Fresh Brothers catered the vegan and gluten free pizza for the kiddos and Mendocino Farms catered the vegan sandwiches, peanut tofu skewers and quinoa salad for the adults.
Scary-O’s & Bat Poop
Power-0’s look like Cheerios but the only ingredients are beans! I got the chocolate flavor for the first time ever since, you know… it’s a party! And that’s more a spooky color, too!) 🙂
Chocolate covered raisins make convincing Bat Poop, even if they look nothing like real guano!
Witches Warts
Organic green grapes, always a hit.
Bat Wings
For bat wings, I used organic blue corn tortillas, of course. 🙂
Watermelon 6’s
Because I can’t seem to have a summer birthday party without them! In case you are just tuning in, I cut out watermelon in the shape of my girls age every year for their birthday. It’s become a tradition!
Drinks
Vampirina Brew
Take regular lemonade and add Butterfly Pea Powder to make a blue-ish purple drink, just like Vampirina!
Water
Big glass dispenser of water (so no wasted plastic bottles!)
I also used these eco friendly compostable utensils that are made from cornstarch. I’m REALLY trying to be more eco-conscious not just in my life but in my parties and kids lives too!
Entertainment
If you’ve watched the show, then you know Vampirina and her folks turn into bats and she lives with a blue ghost named Demi who disappears a lot. So I thought a Magician would be the perfect on-theme entertainment! Jersey Jim was great… I’m not sure who enjoyed it more, the adults or the kids! 🙂
Decor / Fun Stuff
For fun things to do at the party…
Vampirina Photo Booth
With a life-sized Vampirina cutout and an iPad mount! You can find apps that turn an iPad into a photo booth instantly!
Vampirna Bat headbands
Both kids and adults had fun wearing these Vampirina bat headbands during the party! (from Etsy)
Purple and black Bat rings
I also had these for the kids to wear during the party. They are from Halloween Favor bat rings from Amazon.
Printable coloring pages & activities
I like to have something else for kids to do in case they aren’t interested in what else is going on. I used this printable I found on Pinterest and re-used the markers and blue buckets from last years party! Re-use! Re-use! Re-use! 🙂
Lawn Game
This big life size tic tac toe board was a new addition this year. Even though it’s not the most eco-friendly purchase, it’s definitely reusable – my 2 year old has already requested it for her 3rd birthday party! It was a hit with the kids, and I plan to use it for a few events then donate it to someone else. I got it here: life size tic tac toe board.
Favors
For the favors, I made these cute bags (with Esty’s print out help!) and filled it with the following:
- Vampirina Coloring/Activity Book
- Vampirina Puzzle tin
- Glow sticks
