Home made almond milk is SO easy, and delicious!
I talk a lot with my clients (and in my 21-day program!) about eating whole foods. Boxed store-bought almond milk can have almost no actual almonds (there is an ongoing class-action lawsuit against Silk and Almond Breeze that they had 2% or less almonds in their almond milks!) and instead has thickeners, emulsifiers, carrageenan, and often added sugar and flavor. But really, you don’t need ANY of that stuff! This delicious recipe has organic almonds and water. That’s it!
Carrageenan has been linked to gut inflammation, gastrointestinal disease and even some types of cancer. Added sugars are linked to diabetes, heart disease, weight gain and more. The thickeners used in boxed almond milk (xanthan gum, gellen gum, guar gum, etc) can cause digestive issues as well, since they are indigestible.
And I realize I’m giving almonds all the glory here BUT… you can easily do this with any other nut too! Try it with cashews, walnuts or whatever nut milk you enjoy!
The only tools you need are a blender and a nut milk bag. If you don’t have a nut milk bag, you can find one in the grocery store or Amazon. I use (and love!) my Vitamix for this recipe, but any high-speed blender should work. With my Vitamix, I don’t even bother removing the almond skins, since it doesn’t seem to change the taste. Easy!
Want to see how it’s done? Check out the video below!
PS – I have a 3 year old and a 3 week old, and I just made this for my “golden milk” turmeric latte (recipe coming soon!) last night. So really, if I can make it, ANYONE can! 🙂
Hope you enjoy 🙂

I love almond milk. This video is great! I had no idea almond milk could be harmful to my health. It’s too easy not to make it from scratch. Thank you Abby!
Thank you so much!
(PS – this recipe is fun with kids too, they love turning on the blender and squeezing the nut milk bag!)
